Audi is going to show a small, new electric concept version of its little A2 -- and the most interesting thing about it may be the lights. It's about to be shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
The Audi A2 concept is a little more than 12 feet long, which is about the length of a Fiat 500, but is packed with features. for instance, the dark glass roof of the white-painted show car switches to clear glass with the flick of a button.
As for those headlights, they are a newfangled type of LEDs called "matrix beam." A package of LEDs and microreflectors generate a high-resolution, non-glaring high-beam light, Audi says. All the lights on the car are just as sophisticated: the daytime running lights, the "intelligent" tail lights that adapt their illumination to the visibility conditions and the rear fog light produced by laser diodes.
